Summary

Hot on the heels of the New York Times bestsellers The Twin and The Lake, another pulse-pounding read from the undisputed queen of YA thrillers!

They said goodbye to their friends and family for the weekend。 They weren’t counting on forever。

Jagged Island: a private amusement park for the very rich—or the very influential。 Liam, James, Will, Ava, Harper, and Paisley—social media influencers with millions of followers—have been invited for an exclusive weekend before the park opens。 They’ll make posts and videos for their channels and report every second of their VIP treatment。

When the teens arrive, they're stunned: the resort is even better than they’d imagined。 Their hotel rooms are unreal, the park’s themed rides are incredible, and the island is hauntingly beautiful。 They’re given a jam-packed itinerary for the weekend。

But soon they'll discover that something's missing from their schedule: getting off the island alive。

It just seemed suspect from the prologue for me。 Since it's horror and some stupidity is required, I didn't hold it against the story。 Billionaire wants to invite 6 unaccompanied minors to his inaccessible island, fine, stupid parents。 MC uses kill as hyperbole too many times for it to be foreshadowing; it became a joke。 I couldn't tell you much about the characters, there were about a dozen of them and they weren't memorable, I found myself confusing the adults with the teens on multiple occasions, and the details of the island were hard to picture as the MC focused on adolescent things, the POV was authentic。 I was all set to give this story 3-3½ stars for my time at the resort and a few rides, [the descriptions were vague] but the choppiness, annoying characters, and pointless killings got to me and I took a break。 When I returned, it was to the dumbest ideas ever and then an ending that made this story a waste of my time。 I had The Twin, The Lake, and The Cellar in my possession, but after abandoning You Will Be Mine, too creepy for me, I returned them all and assumed I would never read this author。 However, this plot drew me in, and I was considering giving her another chance, but after this sugar storm, I'm good。 Recommend to others?: Eh! It's your call, but I'm not pushing it toward anyone without requests。 。。。more

This book is as so good。 Very quick read that you get sucked into I read it in about 4 hours。 However I did not like the cliffhanger much like other books she has written。 I was hoping for a solid ending。 Other than that it was a very great intense read!

Natasha Preston seems to be a fan of innocuous names。 This one, called The Island (Does the island have an actual name? If so I missed it), is about six social media influencers who are invited to an expensive island resort before it opens。 Problem is, there’s no plans for anyone to leave the island。The book started off a little slow in my opinion–do I ever regret thinking that at all。 The rest of the book is nonstop murder and mayhem。 The book has a bloodbath that can almost put the Hunger Game Natasha Preston seems to be a fan of innocuous names。 This one, called The Island (Does the island have an actual name? Ok so I love all of Natasha Preston books and I absolutely had to have this book so I preordered it just so I would receive it on release day! I got it just a couple hours ago and I am starting to read it。 I will place my review once I finish it Haha。

Is this one going to be open ended?I haven't read a book by this author in a while。 I read two of her books back in 2019 and I think they were both books published early in her career (2014-2015)。 They were ok, but didn't wow me, so I'm interested to see how she's grown as a writer since them。 This premise of this one sounds interesting & makes me think of You're So Dead by Ash Parson (that one has a similar plot line to this, but it was way more campy than I expected it to be) and also, Hide by Is this one going to be open ended?I haven't read a book by this author in a while。 I read two of her books back in 2019 and I think they were both books published early in her career (2014-2015)。 They were ok, but didn't wow me, so I'm interested to see how she's grown as a writer since them。 This premise of this one sounds interesting & makes me think of You're So Dead by Ash Parson (that one has a similar plot line to this, but it was way more campy than I expected it to be) and also, Hide by Kirsten White (because of the amusement park setting)。 I hate open ended stories (which is one of the reasons Hide was a let down for me), and I've seen a couple reviewers on here say the ending for this book is abrupt, so I'm wondering if this is an open ended type of story? If anyone sees this review and has already read this book, could you please let me know if it's open ended or not? If it is, I'll just take it off my TBR cause I know it's not a book for me。 Otherwise, I think I'll go into this one with low expectations and hopefully be pleasantly surprised。 。。。more

1。5 stars。 While it was quick-paced and sometimes a bit creepy, the characters of The Island felt stereotypical and somewhat shallow。 The main character trying to deduce who the murderer was felt weird, as I felt that she made mostly baseless assumptions。 The ending was。。。。a thing。 I was not impressed by the reveal of the murderer and I was mostly befuddled by the very last scene。

Okay well that is one way to end a book。 I am a bit angry mostly because I think this is a stand alone book, so I am angry。 All good books though should leave someone feeling something, yet I don’t know that I would say this is a good book。 I loved the idea。 Sending a bunch of influencers to an island and then picking them off one by one。 However, the book did not read as smoothly as I would have liked it。 Sometimes the action was coming at you so fast that my brain skipped what was going on so Okay well that is one way to end a book。 I am a bit angry mostly because I think this is a stand alone book, so I am angry。 All good books though should leave someone feeling something, yet I don’t know that I would say this is a good book。 I loved the idea。 Sending a bunch of influencers to an island and then picking them off one by one。 However, the book did not read as smoothly as I would have liked it。 Sometimes the action was coming at you so fast that my brain skipped what was going on so I had to go back a couple times to figure out what actually had happened。 Most of to the time the item I missed was like one sentence which made the world of a difference。 I loved the potential that this book had I just don’t know that it delivered。 I do think teens will be drawn to the concept though。 tThank you so much to Random House Children and Netgalley for allowing me to read an advance copy of this title。 。。。more

I will never turn down a book with influencers which is what drew me to this YA thriller。 It started strong and I was enjoying the remote atmosphere and variety of influencers who were invited。 Ultimately, this one didn't work for me。 The majority of the decisions the characters made were asinine - running towards the killer instead of away。 While the ending was a bit unconventional, I think I enjoyed it? This review has been hidden because it contains spoilers。 To view it, click here。 Whereas I feel most of what I have read of Natasha Preston’s books are YA thrillers, this one may be more YA horror。 It is well written and captivating, and takes off from the first chapter。 To be fair if possible I would have given it 3。5 stars due to the fact I am just not a fan of the way she ends her books, this one included。 Six teen influencers are invited to a new theme park on a private island that is everything Disney is not when things begin going horribly wrong。
